Overview

The Cruzeiro and the Tricentennial Obelisk on Rua da Praia in São Sebastião: landmarks of the Historic Center, with views of the channel and Ilhabela, on FUNDASS's tourist and cultural itinerary.

Cruzeiro
The Cruzeiro is a monumental religious cross installed on the waterfront of Rua da Praia — a typical element of Portuguese colonial Catholic towns, which erected cruzeiros in prominent public places to symbolically mark the territory as Christian, serve as sites of popular devotion, and record vows and the community's collective memories. In the context of São Sebastião, the Cruzeiro is part of the Rua da Praia Tourist Complex and is included in the Guided Visits itinerary offered by FUNDASS throughout the year, cited as one of the identifying landmarks of the Historic Center alongside the Parish Church, Casa Esperança and the Town Hall and Jail House.

Tricentennial Obelisk
The Commemorative Obelisk of the Tricentennial of the Political-Administrative Emancipation of São Sebastião is located in front of the Casa da Cultura on Rua da Praia — a civic monument erected to celebrate the city's 300 years of emancipation, marking in stone the memory of its foundation and the Sebastiense identity. Its position on the waterfront, with the São Sebastião Channel and Ilhabela in the background, makes it one of the most photographed spots in the Historic Center.
