Overview
Toca do Buraco do Bicho, in São Sebastião, is a cave on the Rio-Santos highway, after Guaecá, with quick access from the road. A cavern with a waterfall, caiçara legends and adventure.
On the edge of the Rio-Santos highway, just after Guaecá Beach heading toward Barequeçaba, Toca do Buraco do Bicho reveals a natural cave about 15 meters deep carved into the rocks, with a wet entrance formed by a small waterfall that invites curiosity. Access is immediate from the shoulder (watch the traffic), a few steps from the road, allowing a quick stop to explore the main chamber and a narrow cavity at the back that challenges adventurers with crawling.
Surrounded by caiçara legends, the grotto is famous for the story of a sea monster that attacked ships until it was expelled by Father Anchieta with holy water — and for reports of a ghostly priest who asks for a ride and disappears on the descent. An unusual spot that mixes geology, folklore and the dramatic proximity to the rough sea of Guaecá, revealing the mysterious soul of the northern coast of São Sebastião to those who watch the road.
