Diving
Discover a rich underwater world in São Sebastião, with rocky headlands, paradisiacal islands and abundant marine life.
São Sebastião is one of the main diving spots on the northern coast of São Paulo, with 5 sites highlighted in the State Government's official guide "Roteiros de Mergulho". The islands south of the city — such as Ilha dos Gatos, As Ilhas, Ilha das Couves and Montão de Trigo — offer depths of 3 to 18 meters, visibility up to 15m and encounters with turtles, rays, octopuses and colorful schools of fish. Perfect for introductory dives, snorkeling or scuba diving, always with local guides for safety.
Main Dive Sites
- Ilha dos Gatos (3-12m): Rocky headland with rock slabs, varied fish and sandy bottom. Ideal in calm seas.
- As Ilhas (3-12m): Sheltered headland, broken bottom with rays, flounders and turtles. Be aware of currents.
- Ilha das Couves (5-10m): Small calm harbor with rock formations and a good variety of fish.
- Ilha Montão de Trigo - Ponta Negra (7-18m): Boat trips with a chance of dolphins; rich headland.
- Praia de Toque-Toque Pequeno: Easy snorkeling with colorful fish and turtles near the rocks.
Departures leave from marinas located on the municipality's southern coast.
